Choosing the right tile for your space can be tricky! Here are 10 tips to keep in mind:
1. Use light colours for small spaces to help make them feel larger.
2. However, do not be afraid to get a bit adventurous and throw in some colour to add effect!
3. Do not compromise on quality. Think of tiles as an investment, not a cost. You can still get quality tiles at a good price.
4. Always purchase an additional 5-10% more tiles than you are expected to use. This leaves some room to compensate for any breakage or cutting mistakes.
5. Ensure you choose a grout colour that will compliment your tiles and blend in well.
6. Consider using smaller tiles for jobs that would require a lot of cuts (i.e. going around fixtures and fittings).
7. Incorporate borders and decors to break up the pattern a little and add interest.
8. Check that the type of tiles you purchase are suitable for the area you intend to use them in. Floor tiles have a PEI rating (wearing rate) for different types of area usage. Also, Porcelain tiles are more suitable for outdoor floors where heavy traffic is expected.
9. Get advice on the proper maintenance when purchasing natural stone tiles as some need sealing and regular treatments.
10. Don’t be afraid to speak up and ask flooring sales assistants for advice. They are trained to answer your queries and bring things to your attention they you may not have considered.
