With the weather turning more chilly, more cold weather is sure to follow. Here are some things you can do to get your home ready for winter.
Put away garden hoses, it’s important to drain them first to stop them from expanding and splitting if they were to freeze. Also turn off any outside water, turning it off at the interior cut-off valve. Make sure to leave the outside tap open a quarter of a turn to allow it to breathe.
Check around all windows and doors for gaps that could let in a draught. Anything bigger than 2mm and be sure to apply exterior sealant. Make sure your windows and doors close tightly too. Clear any leaves and debris from your guttering as a build-up could result in icy, heavy gutters collapsing.
Insulate your pipes, not only will it reduce loss of heating but will also prevent them from freezing and bursting.
