Just a casual glance at your property may reveal peeling paint or a slipped roof tile but to maintain the exterior to its best it needs an MOT every year like your car.
Check the roof and chimneys – Broken tiles/slate on the ground are a sign that something is wrong. Using binoculars makes it easier to spot problems. If you can access your loft space be sure to check the lining for signs of leaks or damage.
Inspect gutters, downpipes and Drains – Although unpleasant it’s worth doing part of the inspection with an umbrella during heavy rain. This will show any leaks and blockages. Also checking drains, rainwater and sewage, lifting the grate/inspection cover to check for blockages.
Check external Walls for damage – Around the ground floor make note of any water collecting, soil banked up or any trees/shrubs that could be causing damage. Clear all air bricks. Look for loose or damaged brickwork and make note of any cracks.
